LATIN AMERICA - PÉROU

The Amazon Centre for Anthropology and Practical Application (CAAAP)  is a non-profit civil association, founded in 1974 by the bishops of the Peruvian jungle. CAAAP works for the defence and exercise of the rights and cultural identity of Amazonian populations, particularly indigenous peoples, according to an intercultural approach, considered strategic for development and democracy. This work is carried out through the training of community leaders, political advocacy and denunciation of the impact of extractives, specialized technical and legal advice and academic research.

The program focuses on the following activities:

• Training and technical support to national, regional and local indigenous organizations to present proposals to influence decision-making in central, regional and local government bodies
• Training and technical support for indigenous organisations as part of actions to recognize collective rights
• Spaces for dialogue and debate between indigenous specialists and academics and joint research and publications on the Amazon and live life to the fullest
• Promote the actions of the Pan-Amazonian Social Forum (FOSPA).
